
Bagru is a town situated 30km away from the pink city of Jaipur. Bagru is well known for its hand block printing using natural dyes & techniques. This technique of hand block printing was started by the God of Chippa community “Sant Siromani Shri Namdevji Maharaj”. The Chippa’s are referred to the caste of the block printers. This tradition of printing is as old as 350 years.
Bagru printing is not only popular in India but is also known worldwide. The technique involves carving the design on a wooden block & dipping the block in the chosen colors & printing on the fabric. There are two kinds of printing methods in bagru printing. One is the Dabbu (also known as “Indigo”) and the second one is Bagru .
